Public Records in St. Clair County
The County Clerk's office is responsible for far more than just elections. It is the official keeper of many of St. Clair County's most important public records — from birth and death certificates to marriage licences, property records, and notary commissions.
Understanding what records the clerk maintains, and how to access them, is something every resident should know. Gary Hursey is committed to making that process as simple and transparent as possible.
Types of Public Records Maintained by the County Clerk
- Vital Records: Birth certificates, death certificates, and marriage licences for events recorded in St. Clair County.
- Election Records: Voter rolls, precinct results, canvass reports, and polling place information.
- Notary Commissions: Records of all notaries public commissioned in the county.
- Tax Records: Property tax extensions and related documents.
- County Board Records: Minutes, ordinances, and resolutions passed by the St. Clair County Board.
Gary's Plan for Better Record Access
Too many residents still have to take time off work and travel to the courthouse to access records that could easily be available online. Gary will prioritise digitising and publishing public records so that St. Clair County residents can access what they need from home, at any time.
