Comparing Early Voting Methods in St. Clair County
Illinois offers several ways for voters to cast their ballots before Election Day. Understanding the differences between these options can help St. Clair County residents choose the method that works best for them.
In-Person Early Voting
Illinois law allows voters to cast an in-person ballot at designated early voting sites beginning 40 days before a general election and 15 days before a primary. In St. Clair County, early voting locations are set by the clerk's office. Gary Hursey will expand the number of convenient early voting sites so more residents can participate without long drives or waits.
Vote by Mail (Absentee Ballot)
Any registered Illinois voter may request a mail-in ballot without providing a reason. Applications must be received by the clerk's office no later than five days before the election. Gary supports making the mail-in ballot application process fully online and easy to track.
Grace Period Registration and Voting
Illinois also allows voters to register and vote simultaneously during a grace period that runs from 28 days before the election through Election Day itself. This option is available at the clerk's office and designated sites. Gary will ensure this option is clearly communicated to all residents.
Which Method Is Right for You?
All three methods are secure and legally valid. The best choice depends on your schedule and comfort level. Gary's goal is to make sure every legal voter in St. Clair County has the information and access they need to participate — no matter how they choose to vote.
