Are Election Records Public in St. Clair County?

One of the most common questions residents ask is: can I see the election records for my precinct? The short answer is yes — most election records in Illinois are public documents, and the County Clerk's office is the primary custodian of those records.

Under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), residents have the right to request a wide range of election-related documents, including voter registration rolls, precinct-level results, poll books, and canvass reports.

What Records Are Available?

  • Certified election results by precinct
  • Voter registration statistics
  • Canvass and audit reports
  • Polling place lists and hours
  • Election judge rosters

How to Request Records

To request election records from the St. Clair County Clerk's office, submit a written FOIA request by mail or in person. The office has five business days to respond. Gary Hursey is committed to making this process faster and easier — including offering an online request portal so residents do not have to travel to the courthouse.

Transparency starts with access. When elected, Gary will ensure that all non-exempt election records are proactively posted online so that most residents never need to file a formal request at all.
